Membership
and Annual Maintenance Charges (AMC)
A membership fee
is a one-time payment only, to last for the
duration of the agreement, ay 15 or 30 years.
However, there are AMC, which are sub-divided into
member services and resort housekeeping.
The member services fee is charged for the management of
bookings, cancellations, complaints and while the resort housekeeping fee is
self-explanatory. The two fees vary from scheme to
scheme and are subject to change at any time.
Any
increase of not more than five per cent do not have to go through
the company’s trustee or liaison committee for approval. The AMC
is applicable even if a member does not utilise his entitlement
for a particular year.

Resort
Exchange Fee
All
timeshare companies in the world are affiliated to either one or two
international resort exchange companies - Resort Condominiums
International ( RCI)
or Interval International (II). Members however,
have the option to not be a member of the RCI or II, which means they
will only get to use their entitlements among the company’s home
resorts only.
As
for those who wish to be able to exchange entitlements with the
worldwide resorts affiliated with RCI or II, an annual fee is
applicable. On top of that, a member is also subject to a fee everytime
an exchange actually takes place. In the event a member decides to be
re-affiliated with an exchange company after a lapse of a few years, a
re-initiation fee is applicable.

Documents and Cancellations
As soon as your booking
is confirmed by your timeshare company or RCI / II, make sure you are
sent a booking confirmation slip (BCS) by fax or other means. The BCS
will be your ticket for checking into any resorts. Make sure all the
information on the BCS is correct, including details like the number of
persons who will be staying at the resort. Some companies charge a fee
for booking, as well as cancellations. Also never gamble with bring
extra person(s) at any resort. Other
Fees and RegulationsEvery
timeshare company applies different fees, rules and regulations. Some
local resorts and those under RCI apply a utility fee on top of the AMC
each time you occupy units. A security deposit is also applicable
everytime you check in. These are some of the other fees timeshare
companies charge their members. Make sure you read all the rules in the
prospectus. |
